Acoustical Design and Studio Layout: John Vrtacic & David Hayes

Technical Design: John Vrtacic

Equipment Installation: John Vrtacic, Cory Dixon, and Rafael Daudet

This project involved major modification to the original single level building. The existing masonry walls were extended in height and reinforced to meet seismic requirements. New concrete foundations were installed for the Control Room and the Studio masonry walls. Extra sound proofing of the recording studio was a requirement set out from the very beginning of the project.

Double and Triple “Vrtacic Walls” were installed, as well as a double roof and “Vrtacic Ceiling”. Extra attention to details paid off in achieving excellent sound proofing and sound isolation. One interesting detail in this project was the design of the “Performing Stage”. John brought this idea from his studio project in San Francisco for the rock band “Metallica”. The stage was built on top of the floating floor, with extra reinforcement, filled with sand and constructed so as not to resonate under loud sound conditions. The large size studio allows bands to set up their equipment on the stage similar to a live performance. All the floors are based on the “Vrtacic Isolation Floor Design”.

Equipment:

A 64 CHANNEL Solid State Logic Console was installed on the raised floor. This allows for easy site of vision to the studio and Iso Room. A separate machine room was built to accommodate the SSL racks and Radar machines as well as the Protools equipment.
